What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a science and an art based on the principle of microcosms (mini maps) of the entire body mirrored on the feet, hands and ears. Pressure applied to specific points of microcosms creates balance of your sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, smoothing the nervous system, improving circulation and reducing stress. The Art of Reflexology is in the hands of the practitioner. The hands sense the microcosm’s reactions to touch communicating information about the corresponding systems. It is an ancient time tested effective healing form of body work used to prevent disease, improve quality of life and speed healing, known benefits are; induce deep relaxation, balances the whole system, cleanses the body of toxins, revitalizes energy, stimulates creativity and productivity.

Q: What qualifications are required for a Certified Master Reflexologist in Washington State? A Reflexologist is no longer mandated to become Massage Practitioner; rather they are required to attend a National Board Certified School. This requires one to achieve 210 hours of classroom application and study along with 90 hours of documented practice hours for a total of 300 hours. We must demonstrate our abilities in sessions with National Board Certified Reflexology Instructors whom have pasted the American Reflexology Board exam. The program takes at least a year and a half for completion, plus one must have continuing education credits every two years.

PNF: Both (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretch, and PFM (Passive Foot Mobilization) are a couple of the subjects I studied at Seattle Reflexology and Massage Center.  PNF stretch works with such foot ailments as plantar fasciitis, by assisting change in one’s tendons ability to stretch allowing proper movement. PFM assist the foots fine tuned tendons and ligament stretching joints allowing proper placement broken arch, bunions, claw toes, hammer toes. This non evasive application of PNF and PFM requires several regular sessions as many physical applications do, when comparing cost and time off work, one can see why many prefer these sessions.
